For years I was a part of a summer camp for little kids. It went so well with an age range of 3-6 we decided to double the span and the enrollment. And the staff. My contribution is to lead group singing five times during the morning, which is my cup of tea.
The director created the vision, and partnered with a minister to build a theme each June. One was about Joseph, whom you may know was abandoned by his brothers and tossed in a pit. Fortunately God was holding him in the palm of His hands and arranged for Joseph to be rescued not only from the hole in the ground, and prison after that, but to be exalted as the second leader in all of Egypt. Things turned out well for him. If you don't bail half way through the story.
There were three tiers of teachers. Six adults lead an activity like art and theater and cooking, high school aged students were each in charge of a group of seven children, and volunteers from middle school kept the ratio low. We wanted lots of eyes on eighty precious people.
On the first morning I was thick into He's Got the Whole World In His Hands when an energetic three year old bolted away from the group. I kept singing for a heartbeat, waiting for one of the leaders to leap up and catch her. But none did. They were enjoying the music and the cute child in their laps, and didn't notice.
"GO GET HER!" I gave the directive. A high school girl sprang into action, dumping the boy next to her. Her legs are long, and she soon scooped the escapee up and brought her back to the fold.
There is a woman who felt like her husband's affection was wandering off in a new direction. She talked to me about joining a marriage group. I assured her that no one is expected to speak more than they are comfortable with, and she asked her husband to please join her. They came.
After six weeks they began to smile more at each other, and he talked as much as anyone. While at first there was a foot of space between them on the couch, gradually the gap lessened, and they held hands.
I am glad she did not bail on him half way through the story. She went after him.
