I am spending a lot of time with fairies. A friend designed
fabric that is bright with winged children perched on mushrooms, and smelling blossoms. The fairies are multi cultural, so that children of all ethnicities can feel magical. Boys, too, are included as they befriend bumble bees. Thus far I have finished a pink crib quilt, and twin sizes in yellow and
blue yet to be quilted.
It is a step in the direction of opening the garden gates to small people who might wonder if they are invited to the party. In a world with too many blockades, simple pictures welcome the light.
Recently a few neighbors have discovered surprises on their doorsteps. Chocolate chip cookies, bouquets of flowers, and anonymous words of kindness have landed with a whisper and a prayer. I was in a group of women enjoying the mystery of it all, and one recipient said she had spent the morning delighted to imagine everyone and anyone she knew as the giver.
Maybe we can all be part of the magic.
