![]() My Uncle Kenny, the one who taught math when he wasn't writing encyclopedia articles, told me he would much rather have a student's attention for ten minutes every day than for two hours every other week. It gives the ideas time to settle in and make themselves at home. I guess that is the logic behind those snakey hoses that leak into your garden, instead of the biweekly deluge that leaves your lettuce spluttering for air. Children too, seem to prefer the frequent grazing schedule to the monthly gorge-a-thon.
Today is the second birthday of Marriage Moats. Two years of a low daily dose of relationship fertilizer. Of course not all people have been around that long, and some subscribers do not open every single day. But even once a weekers have accumulated a hundred small bites of pro marriage energy.
Of course it is still a tad behind the competition. By competition I am loosely referring to the conveyor belt of anti marriage messages that bombard anyone with internet access or cable. My twins and I take turns covering up the obscene ads that pop up unbidden when we are minding our own business.
My plan has been to dance around a little. Sometimes the moat is meant to be sweet, or inspiring. Other days I shoot for informative, with links for the inquisitive among us. Occasionally I steer toward take-this-and-run, while other mornings I hope to leave you with a space to fill with your own thoughts.
It is, unfortunately, mostly one sided. But some people tell me they carry the conversation into their own homes, or forward moats to people they care about. My intention is to be genuine, to be thought provoking, to remind you that you are not alone in your affection for a shared life.
Happy birthday to you!
