Marriage Moats Caring for Marriage

My daughter Mercy went to Alaska for a season and met the woman who wrote Mama, Do You Love Me? Mercy gave her siblings autographed copies of this treasure to keep forever and for always.

It is easy to love someone when they are clean, cooperative and dancing inside the lines. But family life tends to bleed into the messy perimeters. Even a jerk can love someone who is beautiful and cleaning up after you, or dapper and bringing home a pay check. That is if you are talking about the kind of love that sticks like post it notes. .
This gorgeous tale explores the most dangerous turf lurking in a small boy's mind. Will Mama love me even if I am naughty? Can anger and devotion coexist in the same beating heart without splitting it down the middle? Does errant behavior trump love and send it to the bottom of the discard pile?

This is of course the defining question in marriage. Yes we adored each other when we were slender and coy, sitting across a table for two in a French cafe. Clap. Clap. You pass the I Can Keep Up the Illusion for 2 Hours test.

But what about when your spouse is late, or wrong, or broken? Love that does not fizzle in the presence of a flawed partner is worth writing a book about. It brings warmth that can shield you from hypothermia in an Alaskan winter.

I will love you forever and for always, because you are my Dear One.
