There is a raffle on Sunday night of the conference. My niece even got us a dinner certificate at her four star restaurant in New York City. Raffles access an interesting subsection of the brain, the one riveted on "What will I win?" The element of uncertainty adds to the mounting enticement, as you hope to beat the odds.

I read articles every day about the odds in marriage. People try to dodge the flying statistics of peril and divorce like a space shuttle avoiding meteors. It can feel as if the consequences of our meticulous planning are as random as a ticket being plucked from a jar.

At first glance, or even at fourth or fifth glance, they are. A diagnosis of ASL can sideswipe your marriage when you were focused on your son's soccer schedule. Your husband of twenty years can annihilate your world with an affair at work. Some adult children of divorce meltdown in their thirties and walk out. Others are determined to save their own children from chaos and are as faithful as the Rock of Gibraltar. When you merge your life with another person, you cannot be certain what they will do around the next bend.

This can engender feelings of helplessness. There is no guarantee that you will draw the winning ticket, when it comes to marital longevity.

But I believe there is one thing that is as certain as the sunrise.

For people who desire true married love, the Lord provides similar partners, and if they are not found on earth, He provides them in heaven.
