Marriage Moats Caring for Marriage

One of the presents under our tree was  the Klutz Book of Brilliant Ridiculous Inventions.

We laughed a lot while reading it, and some of the ideas were pretty swift. Take the inflatable booster pants for instance. When you are stuck behind a tall person at a movie all you need to do is pump them up and you elevate ten inches. When the movie is over, pull the plug. Then there is a scratch 'n sniff menu, to help you make that tough decision between Pesto Pizza and Nacho Supreme. There are clothes hangers with loooong handles for short people, and prescription windshields so you can drive without glasses. I liked the helium bubble wrap, to save money when shipping gifts, and cookie checkers which come in vanilla and chocolate. When you jump your opponent, you eat him.

The authors were willing to be creative, and to try new ways of finding solutions. For people who get weary of washing dishes, try ice plates. Toss them in the sink and they melt. For folks who struggle finding a parking place, put the Inflato Hydrant where you want, and the space will be waiting for you the next day. Simply toss the fake hydrant in your back seat. There is a pair of mosquito zapping earrings for buggy summer evenings, and a tricycle/lawn mower combo.

The book describes the qualities that favor new solutions.
  • Defer judgment
  • Go for quantity
  • Encourage wild ideas
  • Build on the ideas of others

When trying to find solutions as a couple, you can be creative too. You might even want to send the ideas to Klutz.
