| I
have been to the doctor more times than I can count. I know the drill
with blood pressure and peering down my throat with a flashlight. But I
have never been to a relationship doctor. John Gottman has infused the
inexact world of relationships with a litany of ways to measure
physiological responses, facial expressions and indicators of affection.
I have no idea what a check up costs, and whether the average insurance
policy covers it, but it certainly makes as much sense as a routine
colonoscopy. Colon cancer is curable if you catch it in the early
stages, and from a purely economic standpoint, is cheaper to deal with.
Marriage problems are easier to remedy early in the game as well, and definitely cheaper than divorce. |
