There are people who care about the future of penguins. These little guys have been blessed with hand knit sweaters from around the world to protect them from the tragic results of an oil spill off of New Zealand. Their feathers are well designed to shield them from the cold water, but not if a drop of oil breaks the seal.
It is a heart warming story as well as a penguin warming one. The birds needed a little boost when they were faced with an unexpected threat. One article I read said they received more wool sweaters from altruistic knitters than they had penguins to wear them. I am not an avid knitter but I was tempted to make one myself.
Marriages too need a little help now and then. Life gets colder, and messy circumstances make them more vulnerable. But there are benevolent forces at work here too. I just read about a film project being created to help one marriage struggling with the effects of a debilitating disease called Frontotemporal Degeneration. They hope the video will spread awareness and soften the blow of the disease to others who are facing it. No one expects that kind of toxin to show up in your family after thirty years of smooth sailing. But there are folks willing to offer all kinds of support if we can just get over our penchant for self sufficiency and ask. There are even heavenly knitters too. And their yarn is as soft as a cloud.
