![]() One time I was wandering from dishes, to the computer, to kids, to laundry, with intervals of disorientation in between, like the spacers between beads on a bracelet. Then as I was mulling over which direction to head in the maze of undone tasks, the twins ran by.
"Thanks for washing my favorite shirt, Mom!" Hope said, as she planted a kiss on my cheek.
The storm in my head cleared. My heart calmed down. I had, I suppose, just as much to do, but it was not so ominous now. Appreciation never goes out of style. It surprises me with its power to create a shift.
The child who folded this laundry is multilingual. She told her mother she loves her in both Acts of Service and Words of Affirmation. It made her mother happy enough that she fetched the camera. I expect that it cleared her head too.
