Marriage Moats Caring for Marriage

Have you ever noticed that lollipops are more appealing than they deserve? I personally have tossed plenty, after the child slumped in a heap from an overdose of sugar that wore off, or it attached itself to her hair. But memory fades quickly, and the next brightly colored lollipop begins its raptured reign.

Being Right carries bright appeal for me. I privately predict that John will forget to do something. I reminded him twice, but I am sure it will slip his mind. I start smacking with the saccharine delight of self righteousness. On the occasion that I am wrong and he actually remembers what I supposedly wanted him to, I am disappointed. How sick is that?

I own a book titled You Can Be Right or You Can Be Married. I have not actually read it, but I think owning it earns points. It is right next to the book Mom, Get Out of My Life But First Will You Take Me to the Mall?  My sister told me about that one when I was dragging through my first set of teenagers. I didn't read it either, as I was always busy driving girls to Gap.

Being right at John's expense seems appealing, to be sure. I start licking into the HFCS of patting myself on the back. But the slump afterward is never worth the buzz.

Remind me if it slips my mind. Twice, if necessary.
