A few years ago Benjamin and I were the only ones in our family at the church service we often attend. This afforded him the chance to report to his siblings about it.
"The minister tried to open a cereal box with a saw! That is dangerous! Then he opened one with a drill! It made a mess!" His smile was enormous just thinking about it.
The minister asked for a volunteer to show him how to open the box. Ben was glad to oblige, and slipped open the tab on top. Easy peasy.
The message was about how some things are more easily learned by observation. You tube can fill in the blanks left where words leave off. I doubt that anyone would master the piano without spending hours watching someone else play. The art teachers I have had over the years always demonstrated a process before letting me loose with wet clay or charcoal.
Last winter we invited a bevy of couples to join us for a bit. We introduced the possibility of matching up with another couple with the agreement to meet for an hour a month. In my experience, there are aspects of a healthy relationship that are best learned by watching. Listening. Being in the same space.
God came to earth to become a living example of Love. Because even profuse descriptions sometimes fall short.
The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.- John 1
