It has been my intention before this. I meant to dig deep in the freezer for bags that have been there past their prime, covered over by a revolving supply of newer purchases. It takes effort to lean into the cold, and hunt beneath the containers of John's soup, and loaves of gluten free bread.
The pantry too has jars and cans that I regularly ignore in deference to my favorites, which show up on the grocery list to replenish.
But in the current climate of staying clear of the stores until the last possible day, I have reached.
Without checking expiration dates, because that is too much information, I have created medleys of carrots, and broccoli, ginger, and quinoa. My family has been appreciative, and while we have not quite seen the white of the floor of the freezer, we are close. As for the pantry I was pleased to uncover a container of chocolate I'd forgotten about. I celebrated by making dessert.
The quarantine has asked us to make concessions. Demanded, really, as we find substitutes for elastic, or ways to connect with grandparents without coughing on them. I wonder if anyone besides me is pleasantly surprised at our own resourcefulness.
It turns out that we can make do with less than we once considered the bare minimum.
Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. -Matthew 6
