There is a
bird that came back from extinction. I had no idea that was in the realm of possibility. The Aldabra rail lived on an island in the Indian Ocean, until the land was submerged and everything was wiped out. The fascinating thing is
that Aldabra rails lost the ability to fly. There was no need once predators interested in devouring them were gone.
In 20,000 years, the species returned which paleontologists consider swift. Not only that, for a second time the birds gave up the capacity to fly.
It intrigues me, this turn of events in the absence of danger. With no animals chasing them, the ground became safe. It reminds me of an evolution I am pursuing with all haste. One day I pray to be without the sharp teeth of criticism, and the fangs of contempt. Then, finally, the people I am trying to love will have no reason to flee.
The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
The leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
The calf and the young lion and the lamb together;
And a little child shall lead them. -Isaiah 11
