Joy Comes | Caring for Marriage |
![]() Weeping may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Psalm 30
Some of the mornings that have broken in my life have felt tardy. I wanted the apology now, the refurbished behavior yesterday, the resolution immediately. Yet when the sunshine finally slid into my window, the darkness seemed like an inadequate toll to pay.
One time I had a stormy relationship with someone. The walls where many of the altercations took place began to have layers of pain like paint.
Then, a dozen years later, I was again with that person surrounded by those same walls. But now I was a witness to exquisite tenderness, as she comforted a small person in distress. I was quiet, like you get when you are in the presence of a miracle.
There were no bold announcements.
"Ta da! The cure has taken place!!"
I could easily have missed it. Dawn and healing are noiseless. Close your eyes and you will never know.
The calendar insists that the brightness came after a long, dark wait. But my heart knows better. It was only a wink of time.
