Are You Watching? | Caring for Marriage |
![]() One of the fun things about going to my daughter's volleyball games is the people on the bleachers. Moms and dads find a way to escape obligations like jobs, and show up. But there are grandparents too, and favorite aunts, family friends, and little sisters. Even teachers and the principal come to show support. Some girls have an entire entourage, cheering loudly with every spike and serve. The crowd claps and whoops for the whole team, but the
truth is we each have our favorite girls.
I suppose the human heart does better with small assignments. Directives like "Love everyone" can be a tad stifling. As someone who can only remember a limited number of names and life circumstances, it is a relief to have a finite prayer list. It works best when there are no gaps in the pairing. Each player has a person or persons who adore her, and wish her well. Sadly this is not always the case. Yet I feel in my bones that on a deeper level, it holds together. God is intensely invested in the victories of each of His children. Even more than I am for my twins, if you can believe that. www.caringformarriage.org
