Marriage Moats Caring for Marriage

I am impatient to arrive. I suppose the sign will say "Marital Bliss" and I will stride through the gates like a runner in the Boston Marathon. The perfect surroundings will fill in for any personal lack in my character. Being in the right place means I will be the right person.

But when my eyes are focused on a finish line in the distance, I forget to notice the path beneath my feet. Lately those steps feel leaden. Plod, plod, wash this pan. Plod, plod, pay this bill.

Yet when I see this moment as a placeholder in a sequence that leads me to a destination, it is not so much an obstacle as a flagstone. I begin to realize that the distance I am traveling is less about the world outside my skin and more about the one inside my chest.

Every moment is a series of consequences leading to eternity.
