![]() I read about a man who plants tiny gardens in potholes. He wants to steer people away from potential twisted ankles or popped tires, as well as to bring them beauty. The gardens sometimes include a tiny tree with a swing, or a bench just perfect for an elf or a Borrower.
It is enchanting to me, the idea of transforming a problem into a blessing. It takes effort of course, and a willingness to rethink what is at first glance annoying.
When the kids were littler, I sometimes made a game of tidying up.
"Only pick up toys that have wheels!" Rush of activity.
"Now only things made of paper!" More scrambling.
Beauty and fun are unencumbered by limits. They are always ready in the wings.
The other night at marriage group several people admitted in their How Are You? that they were grumpy. It had been a hot day, and teeming with ordinary obligations. On the agenda for the evening was the importance of having fun in marriage. We played In the Manner of the Word. It felt as if the dramatic flair burst out of the pavement, to see people suddenly being intriguing, or verbose.
I wonder if I can find ways to take a lack and fill it with loveliness.
