![]() The holes are narrow enough to let pebbles slip through. Those are like the personality flaws that crumble off in the rain. Losing my glasses, for instance. I doubt that tendency will keep pace with my broad steps when the brilliance of eternity beckons me across the great divide. The bigger rocks, though, are more permanent signs of character. That is the part of me that no amount of rinsing can remove.
The other day I watched a show where a woman was dating a wealthy man who seemed attentive enough while sampling black truffles on a Wedgwood plate with three silver spoons for dessert. But when they were locked in an elevator with a ticking bomb, the only concern left behind was self preservation. The heroes, the ones she had been annoyed with up until this point, whisked the bomb through a trap door and she lived to rekindle her relationship with the non hero. Or not. She decided that a man so bereft of chivalry had lost his appeal. There are chinks in John's personality that will not make it across the threshold. Fortunately for him there is no paperwork to speak of. Taxes will be moot, since we will be giving to God the things that are God's. He does not leap at the chance to complete forms, not exactly a crucial ingredient in moral fiber, but its omission can get you in trouble on this side of the pearly gates.
But I suspect that the ore that is deeply imbedded within him will glint in the light of celestial sunshine. Photo by Brita Conroy
