Mona and Harvey were on the edge of their seats.

"The money is strictly for one thing only. Your marriage. It cannot be used for bills, or expenses. I take you on your word of honor to comply with this." Larry had taken on a serious tone.

"What do you mean our marriage?" Mona asked.

"Let's suppose you keep adding to the fund for five years. Then you hit a hard spot. You forget to apologize, slack off in going to church. You hardly pray any more and all you can do is scrape the energy to fork over the fourteen dollars a month. You are not feeling very warmly toward each other," Larry described.

"That will never happen," Mona assured them with a wave of her hand and a toss of her hair.

"Then all is well and the account keeps growing. But if a day comes when you are feeling distant from each other, like you have forgotten how to talk and trust..."

"Yes?" Harvey was spell bound.

"You withdraw some money and spend it on your marriage." Marjorie said. "Maybe you will take a trip, or enroll in a PAIRS class. Perhaps you will go to a retreat, like Retrouvaille, or Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage. Maybe you will choose a way to serve together, like Habitat for Humanity, or volunteering in a homeless shelter."

"Brian and Emily Rogers went to help after Hurricane Katrina! I was always amazed that they did that. Was that how they spent their money?" Mona wanted to know.

Larry smiled. "As I said this part of our agreement is confidential, but I will go so far as to say you are right. They had been feeling very unhappy in their marriage before they went."

"They were like different people when they came back," Mona remembered.
