I am part of a group of women who support each other in offering more fruits and vegetables to their families. There are contests to try new veggies, and recipes for smoothies packed with nutrition. One woman was recently raving about kohlrabi. I would not recognize one in a line up at the farmers market, but she has me curious. Last week I bought kale after hearing a number of moms extol its praises. John rescued me by tossing it in a soup he created. Otherwise I may have just lost a staring contest with it when I opened the vegetable drawer.
The members are already sold on the value of fresh foods. We just need a nudge to act on it.
Ten days from now I am going to a Marriage Conference. There will be a day and a half of activities and workshops, as well as delicious meals all designed to enrich marriage. Many people concur that relationships need attention. But acting on that belief can be a stalemate. This year there are two sets of parents who paid for their married kids to go. A lovely way to support fledgling marriages, in my book. At least as friendly as showing up at the back door with a pot of minestrone.
