There is a fascinating
show about Renewable Energy as it relates to spiritual forces within us. The sun is a glorious embodiment of what God's love looks like, and how it blesses
us.
One of the speakers has been influential in the field for over thirty years, and articulates just how accessible renewable changes are. He believes that there is no impenetrable barrier to reducing our footprint, and choosing differently. We need not wait for someone else to make it easy. In fact the point of change is in our habits, which is more of a sacrifice than expecting outside circumstances to shift or prices to go
down.
Relying on fossil fuel is similar to depending on dirty sources for our self esteem. Addictions, and self interest are pathetically short lived strategies for happiness. After an initial burst, egocentricity splutters out and goes dark. Yelling at someone feels satisfying for a flash, in an eat-six-slices-of-cake sort of way. When we instead plug into God as the Divine Source of Energy, there is no limit to what we are given as well as what we can
give.
One of the metaphors the show spoke about was how heat leaks from a house. Having replaced our windows ten years ago I am especially mindful of how nice it is to be done with with wintry drafts. When we squander our spiritual energy on efforts like garnering praise, or exerting power over other people, we become depleted. It does not actually keep us warm.
But the deep contentment of caring for one another will
keep shining for a million years.
