Marriage Moats

Dance Alone

The college offered a dance concert last week. The girls and I went, and enjoyed two full hours of energetic movement. While all we did was sit. And clap.

One of the pieces was by a man and a woman. Yet they did not dance together. He was on one side of the stage, practicing steps, and she was on the other. Still they both seemed to be in time with the music. Finally near the end of the song they found each other, and finished the waltz as partners.

In a few days a friend is getting married. She has been cutting the rug to her own internal music for years, while longing prayerfully for a husband. At one point she asked my daughters and me to pray too. Which we did. Yet with no rapid response in sight, she followed God's leading. Quitting her job. Going back to school. Following a dream. Taking a risk. Always moving.

Then she found him. A man she can share a life with. A man with his own aspirations, and prayers. He too has been in motion. Yet as the song slips into a bridge they will adjust their tempo to create one dance. With steps they have been rehearsing all along.

And many of us are clapping wildly.
Love,
