Marriage Moats

Caring for Marriage

Returns

Returning online purchases is a snap. There is a package by my feet that has two pairs of slacks that are a few inches too slack for Benjamin. He is not particular, and would be content to cinch them with a belt but since he will be wearing them to his sister's wedding, we will try again.

The company makes it easy. The label is pre-printed on sticky paper. I don't need to copy an address, scrounge for a marker that is not dried out, or hunt for tape. Peel and press. They even offer multiple choice for the perfectly legitimate reasons for returning it, so I don't feel like a snob. The manufacturer anticipates that the clothing might not fit.

It makes it much less risky to shop online. I have gotten burned in the past with things that looked perfect in the thumbnail photo, that in real life were a disappointment. No easy redos ten years ago. You had to lose ten pounds or gift it to a skinny friend.

But I guess companies want to encourage people like me to shop online without trying it on for size, so they are amenable to exchanges. Which makes me more likely to try again.

I had a conversation a few weeks ago that did not go well. That person and I are currently in a stalemate, not barking but not smiling either. I wish there were a system for reneging our words and exchanging them for ones that fit better. Ones that express our needs without making it hard to breathe. My remarks hit the air and expanded into accusations.

Maybe a list would help me.

Did you feel trampled?

Is there a way we can compromise?

Tell me again what you need?

Maybe that would make it less risky to try again.

Love,

Lori
