Marriage Moats

Caring for Marriage

Watching someone during the creative process is fantastic. When the juices are flowing and a new song, or a painting are emerging it is like a baby crowning. There was vacant space, then there is life.

A musician invited seventy five close friends to the launch of his cd. After three years, nine gospel songs have broken through the silence. Clear Shining After Rain is a celebration of God's coming, and what it means to the human condition. When the first notes started over the speakers, so did the wiggling. His legs moved, his shoulders gyrated, his wrists hopped, his head swiveled, all in response to the exuberant sounds and the power embedded in the words. It was amazing.

There were people in the room who had helped make the cd. Vocalists, guitar players, producers, drummers, co writers each contributed to the project. I'll wager they felt great too.

But I would dare to suggest that there were hours leading up to this one, that were less than magical. The tedious process of composing, practicing, editing, mixing, and downloading can be less than thrilling. At least it has been for me.

Still none of that mattered when the people had gathered with wine glasses in their hands, smiles on their lips. The song is the thing.

Creating a marriage relationship has its share of tedium. John made a zucchini stir fry last night which was delish, but the dishes in the sink moan to be scrubbed. He and I intended to get the new chicken coop constructed this weekend, but after a few rounds of hammering, the rain chased us inside.

It takes awhile to edit and mix two people into a harmonious sound. Thankfully there are friends along the way who contribute to the process, and believe in something even before the rain is over.
Love,
