Marriage Moats

Caring for Marriage

Back from Yale

Hosanna went for a welcome weekend at Yale.  The stimulation of being up close and personal with a hundred and fifty other millennials all primed to begin an MBA program at an Ivy League school was intense. When she stopped off at our house on her way home she picked up a baby chick and just held it for an hour to lower her heart rate.

Everyone on campus was fascinating. The faculty member who made an introductory speech offered a collective description of the group which went on for ten minutes, including people who speak seven languages, triathlon athletes, inventors who hold patents, and a spear thrower. Turns out there was a second spear thrower.

Hosanna likes to ask questions, and one of the professors is a woman she has listened to on podcasts, so she was determined to participate. The topic was being passionate about your calling, and discovering what it is. Hosanna raised her hand.

"Do you think that it's more about finding your true calling, or working hard on your job as if it is your passion?"

"Great question! I think it is a combination of the two. Yes you need to discover the area that deeply interests you, but then you have to work like crazy to act as if it is your calling. It's a lot like a relationship. You find someone you can build a life with, then fully invest in them as if they are right for you. The process helps it become true."

I support that. And I am grateful for the people who are passionate about helping  young people give their absolute best to a world that is full of unanswered questions.

Love,
