Caring for Marriage

Delivery Confirmation

It is exciting to have sold seven quilts in the last two months. One flew to Hawaii where its new owner is weaving a rug to match. Three others were bought by a woman who gifted two of them, one anonymously. One quilt with bright colors landed in Virginia, where it graces a woman's bed. The stained glass window with batik fabrics took the longest to create and ended up in Kansas. The new owner is quite pleased. Finally there was a baby quilt, showcasing the embroidery a grandma made for her grandson.

Each time I mailed them I double checked the address, and insured it. There was an option for delivery confirmation. The promise of knowing it had arrived safely was appealing, and not expensive. Tracking also made it easy to follow each journey in progress, which I did.

The website assured me that the one to Kansas had arrived at the post office. I texted my friend to let her know. She said she had gone to check but the post lady did not give it to her. Was I sure? I sent a link and she drove back again. Happily the package was indeed there and she brought the quilt home to its rightful place.

The other day I wanted to convey to the twins why I like to get to church on time. The music at the beginning is often the only time all week I get to sing with other people, and it brings me joy. When they dawdle to get out the door, it means I miss some of the singing. I tried to express my feelings without tainting it with blame. There was no answer.

I was left hanging, wondering if the message was received. Then Hope spoke.

"I hear you, Mom. We will try to be on time."

Instantly I felt as if my message had been picked up. It calmed me down, to know she understood. She may or may not hustle next Sunday but for now, I was content to know she heard me.

It is not hard to let the person who is opening their heart to you to reassure them that their words have landed, and are being held for safe keeping.
Love,

Lori
