Marriage Moats

Caring for Marriage

Things are Changing

The three yoga classes our son gave us have made an impact. My posture is better, I am doing stretches on weekday mornings, and my body is adjusting to better treatment. It is no small task to recalibrate the way you carry your bag of bones.

The financial class is impacting me too. John and I have opened the dark closet of numbers, and no boogy men jumped out. We were, I am pleased to report, quite civil.

Dave Ramsey claims that change is 80% about behavior. That means the decisions I make when I walk in the fabric store or spring for a birthday dinner add up, or if I resist, don't add up. There is no short cut to new habits. Knowledge is helpful, but is not a substitute for self control.

Already I feel a difference. We are only a third of the way into the class, but I believe it is going to stick. He talks about telling your money where to go rather than wondering where it went.

He could easily be describing marriage. Having a plan for your relationship can be an upgrade from watching it drift. I guess it is like the difference between tying a knot and flinging a line and hoping it will hold.
Love,
