The Lip Sync event last week was pretty sweet. Once a year the Buddy community of main stream kids show up to give misfits like Ben a chance to shine. He and a senior with brown hair sang Beauty and the Beast. She has everything going for her. Probably she will go to college, date cute boys, land a great job, walk down the aisle, have a couple of kids. Ben will definitely not do those things. But he will keep singing.

She was nervous, and kept fiddling with her hair and clothes. I guess no one told her that she is absolutely beautiful just as she is. She has the world at her feet and has no idea. Ben seemed not a whit nervous. He was standing next to one of his favorite people, singing one of his best songs. He does not have the world at his feet and has no idea.

Another performer was a girl who could not support her own weight. While she wasn't in a wheelchair, there were girls on both sides of her holding her up. When the choreography called for her to twirl her arms, they did it for her. It made me cry.

How is it that we can show up for each other? More to the point, if those students are willing to offer balance to others who struggle now what will hinder them from bolstering up a spouse? A child? A coworker?

It reminded me of Aaron and Hur, who held up Moses' arms at the battle of the Amalekites. When we are here for one another, we can all endure until the setting of the sun.

And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.  But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.  Exodus 17
