Marriage Moats

Caring for Marriage

Off the Ground

Being short can be a disadvantage. By that I mean some cupboards are unreachable, and the chances of a good view at a parade are slim. While I am not particularly tall neither am I especially short. There is a student in Ben's class who is six seven, though the condition that causes it does not render him capable of a future in the NBA. But he does make Benjamin laugh.

The other day I got miffed at John for reasons that seemed justified at ground zero. I expected something and it did not transpire. An explosion of frustration erupted inside of me. But I went out to breakfast with a friend and spilled the story to her. Without either belittling my feelings or defending John she said something that got me off the ground.

"My husband doesn't do that either."

Neither had she wasted an ounce of energy wishing he had.

Oh.

Things that in themselves don't change a smidgen can seem vastly different from fifty feet in the air. Or a thousand. My feet are still connected to the floor but the panorama around me has widened considerably. So he did not chose to comply with my assumptions. Noted. Let's start looking for the admirable actions that did appear.

He is faithful.
He got Hosanna's window replaced when someone threw a brick through it.
He cooked dinner last night.
The book he wrote for the fall small group series was great.
He designed the cool snowflakes on our windows.

That search could keep me on the updraft for quite awhile.

Love,
