Marriage Moats Caring for Marriage

Recently I got an invitation to a wedding. It was fun to dress up in my favorite outfit, and join the crowds of people who had clearly prepared to be there. I felt a trifle guilty, since the couple did not actually know me very well, but I knew their parents, and I sincerely hoped to be able to support them as their marriage progressed.

I looked at other people in the congregation and did a little figuring.

"Yes, she is the bride's aunt. She traveled to get here."

"That couple lived near the groom's family years ago in Michigan. How wonderful that they could come."

"I don't know those people, perhaps they are coworkers..."

Everyone had a tether to the couple at the center of the celebration, like ribbons on a Maypole. Everyone felt the pull of affection that gave them license to be part of the joy.

I put my gift in a pile of showy, larger presents, probably more costly than my homemade tablecloth and napkins. I did want to leave a visible sign that I had come, that I care.

Heaven is compared to a wedding.

"Halleluyah, for the Lord god Omnipotent reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give glory unto him, for the marriage of the Lamb is come and his wife has made herself ready." Revelation 19.

I wonder what it will feel like to be there. Everyone will be attentive to their connection to God, and what that relationship has been like over the years.

"I felt close to him as a child, though I moved away in later years."

"My parents had a wonderful trust in him their whole life, but I never really carried it on."

"He has been an integral part of every important decision I make. He leads me every day."

I feel blessed to have been invited to the wedding.

"Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb." Revelation 19

I got my invitation. The time is not specified, though it says, "Behold, I come quickly."

Anticipation helps me to prepare, to want to be worthy of the celebration. I am eager to have my gifts ready too.

"Even so, come Lord Jesus."
