![]() Consumers are more discerning than they used to be.
They read labels, boycott Nestle's, spring for organic and eschew chewing products whose primary ingredient is sugar. They are even savvy enough to understand that glucose, high fructose corn syrup, sorbitol, sucrose and evaporated cane juice are all legs of the same octopus.
They may still choose to buy those products but they don't try to pretend they are supper.
Media is cagey about its list of ingredients. The rating may say "Adult themes" but is that supposed to mean that it is healthy for viewers over the age of 21? I wonder.
There are robust octogenarians who have lived on a daily breakfast of sticky buns and strong coffee with four spoonfuls of sugar, but more often those foods lead to the medical havoc of diabetes and obesity. There are marriages that have weathered the presence of adultery disguised as entertainment, but maybe there are others that have developed marital dis-ease.
I hope the day will come when there are warnings on DVDs.
