Marriage Moats Caring for Marriage
154:365 - After a Long Day at the Office by charamelody

I am grateful that my husband goes to work every day. We did not really pin that detail down when we were dating.

"You will consistently earn an income for the next forty years or so." But it has come in rather handy for covering routine expenses.

Sometimes I think the sheer longevity of that expectation has taken a toll on him. There were times in his career when walking through the door at work took grit. He has had his share of criticism,  and sometimes the job requirements were not based in reality.

It is not that I was exactly goofing off either. I was after all answering endless questions involving "Why?" and making macaroni for nine children. We even homeschooled for a decade. But being the basically ego centric person that I have been, I was more acutely aware of my Herculean efforts than I was of his.

Looking back, I am trying to proffer thanks retroactively.

"John, I appreciate your continual efforts to provide for our family. Your commitment to give us a home, safety, food and clothing is a gift to all of us. I respect you, and I love you."

"You are going to work tomorrow too, right"
