Marriage Moats Caring for Marriage
98:365 - Pretty Shiny by charamelody.

I just about choked when I saw the total. Seventy five bucks to fill up my car.

At that rate I should really become a hermit. Think of the money I could save if I eschewed all social invitations beyond a three mile radius. Maybe I could stop going to church and just watch the new live streaming, and call friends instead of actually spending time with them. Or I could convince them to pick me up rather than meeting them for lunch.

Getting places I want to go is becoming pricey. Is it worth it? If I am filling up my car once every two weeks that is five dollars a day just to exist, never mind road trips.

But I am kinda attached to getting to work, and I actually want to go to my daughter's recital next week. So I cough up the gas money and insert the key.

Recently I decided to invest in marriage. Not my marriage, per say, but marriage in general. I joined a new organization called NAMRE, the National Association for Marriage and Relationship Education. It was not a low budget item, almost a month of gas tanks, but it felt like a a way to support something I love.

When I compare it to what I spend on a year of co pays for instance, it is not unreasonable. I want my kids to be healthy and one way is to feed them broccoli and another is to go to the doctor when they are sick.

I want to help Marriage as an entity to be healthy too, not just scramble to repair it when it gets sick. The people behind NAMRE are pouring their life's blood into doing that. They are my heroes.

I decided against staying home forever. I want my marriage to go places.
