There is a two minute video about what it is like to have Down Syndrome. The children and young people who describe their lives, and their potential are from around the world. Yet they are all part of the Down Syndrome community. The video is a heart tugger.

Having a child with special needs I have often revisited the question this clip addresses.

"Can my child have a happy life?"

While the video is addressed to future mothers of a Down Syndrome child, everyone can be moved. It satisfies a deep longing, when we are facing the unknown, to hear and see people who have navigated the path before us. 

I remember when I was seven and we were moving across the country to a new congregation. A woman who had lived in the house we would land in drew a floor plan of it for my mother on the back of an envelope. I watched too, wondering which box would be my bedroom. That was fifty years ago.

There are people who paint pictures of what it looks like to walk through the unknowns that crop up in marriage. The books and videos on my shelves are for lending. Sometimes all it takes to believe we can push through is hearing the voices and seeing the faces of people who did it first.
