The girls and I were rewatching one of our favorite shows. There is a scene that we choose to close the laptop for,  and we shook our collective heads while the computer was muted. In it, a couple jump in bed together after knowing each other for precisely one day. 

In our culture people are careful about their passwords. Preventing strangers from hacking our bank accounts is a priority, and many folks go to protracted lengths to insure it. My son taught me an algorithm that enables me to create and, get this, REMEMBER different passwords for many websites.

There are not many tv shows in which people meet each other, have a friendly conversation, then hand over their debit card. 

"Here. Take all you want."

But something immeasurably more precious that cash gets handed out like balloons at a birthday party.

And the cost is enormous.
