Caring for Marriage

100 Thank Yous

There is an endearing video about a woman named Lori who embarked on a goal of creating a hundred paintings to give to people in her life. After watching it I went to her website to hear the back story, and see examples of the artwork.

One of the things Lori found out is that gratitude begets more gratitude. Looking for it, and looking again the next day, leads to finding it. She wondered if she could even list one hundred people to thank, and the more she looked, the more she found smiling back at her like a child playing hide and seek.

Her car mechanic, her hair dresser, fellow artists all became part of the project. One woman whom Lori painted for named Amy was one she had never met. But Amy's story moved her deeply. She had given birth to a baby who lived only a short time. At her daughter's funeral they released twenty six butterflies, to represent each day she had lived. Amy took a picture of the butterflies, and began an effort to find gratitude each day for a year. Through the process of taking pictures of what she felt thankful for, Amy began to hunt for them, and amazingly, to find them.

The hundredth painting was for Lori's husband. He had supported her throughout the effort, and gratitude became a more integrated dynamic in their relationship. They expressed their thanks to each other more lavishly, and it blessed them.

Everyone who was given a painting was invited to a reception where all of them were on display. A room bursting with gratitude and color looked like a wonderful place to be.

Love,

Lori
