Three different friends sent me this video so I knew it was a keeper. A couple is offered the chance to grow old together. In one day. Make up artists transform these twenty somethings, a month from marriage, into themselves at age 50, and 70, and 90. The tears and laughter are precious. We get to eavesdrop as they imagine what stories and children and grandchildren they will have shared by the time their hair is gray and their cheeks sag. At the close of the five minute journey through life they kiss gently in plaid pajamas and a pink flannel nightie.

For most of us the creases come slowly, the worry lines one by one. Sometimes I am still taken aback when I see John, whom I have seen for thirty five years, and am surprised that he lives in a sixty year old body. He is still the playful college student who played piano for me in the school auditorium late at night. But his wisdom is hard earned, his dark hair faded as each child broke open our hearts a little more. 

Looking at pictures from when we two were in our twenties, I have no regrets. It was a hoot to be young but I would not trade it for the companionship of a man who still holds my wrinkled hand.
