A student stop motion videographer created a ten minute short called
Head Over Heels. There are no words, but then some things are better
expressed without them.
The story is about an elderly couple whose relationship has drifted to the point that they live in the same house, with different gravity. One is on the floor while the other is on the ceiling. They coexist, sharing the refrigerator as it slides up and down, yet there are unresolved disagreements too.
They swivel their favorite framed picture to and fro to suit themselves. Until it crashes. The
photograph is of a time when she was a dancer and they were in love, but that was long ago. Now they cannot say a civil word to one another.
The feud begins to fade when he repairs her dancing slippers. The act of kindness softens him. She is not quick to forgive however, and he retreats from her rejection.
I will not spoil the ending for you but I think it depicts the effort it takes to get out of our own ego long
enough to cross the divide that keeps us apart.
