There is a heartwarming
story about a place that is feeding the homeless. A young man named Mason working on Wall Street decided to try his hand at tossing dough for a change. He opened a
restaurant in Philly making great pizza. One day someone asked if they could pre pay for a slice for someone who could not afford it. Interesting. So the next time someone came in without the money they were happy to be able to enjoy it anyway. Mason liked the idea and invited customers to write on a sticky note and pay for a slice to go to someone else. The idea clicked. Thousands of slices later there is an ongoing connection between the people with an extra buck and
those without. The divide is not so great as we might believe, and rich or poor we all get hungry every day.
John and I sometimes take younger couples out for coffee or lunch, not because they are going through hard times, but because the seasons of life have shifted for us. We sleep though the night more often than not. Our adult children put pricier gifts under the Christmas tree than we do. It feels right to reach out in a small way to couples for whom
an uninterrupted hour of conversation feels like a luxury.
The divide is not so great as we might believe, and old or young we all need love every day.
