Caring for Marriage

36 Questions

There is an interesting article in the New York Times that claims to be a fast track to intimacy. There are three sets of 12 increasingly personal questions.

Given the choice of anyone as a dinner guest who would you chose?
Would you like to be famous? In what way?
Do you have a secret hunch about how you will die?

Is there something you have dreamed of doing for a long time? Why haven't you done it?
How is your relationship with your mother?

What is your most treasured memory?

When did you last cry?
What is too serious to joke about?

Whose death would be most devastating to you?

The premise is that any two people who answer truthfully to each other will begin to feel a bond. If you are already partners, it increases.

While I have not sat down with John to answer them, perhaps we might explore it over our next vacation. It would take some reflection. I think I can guess some of his responses, but others leave me curious.

One of the fascinating things about the list is that many people will not already know their own answers. Who has already figured out the most exciting dinner guest? I am too busy warming up noodles to contemplate it. Who dares to imagine being legendary? I just hope the successes aren't obliterated by the failures.

Conversations about what we hope for are a door to who we are. It is an honor to be invited in.

Love,
