This weekend I helped put on a children's program for a conference on Alternative Health practices. My friend and I arrived with a car full of musical instruments, art supplies, quilts, a sewing machine, fabric and pins, toys and marbles. We had the care of sixteen kids for the day and we wanted to have
lots of tricks up our sleeves. There were a row of tents, to accommodate small discussions, and the caterers created a delicious lunch of burritos, rice, guacamole, lettuce and salsa. I had seconds.
As days go it was practically perfect. The children sang, sewed, hiked, drummed and played ball. We sang for the moms when they came to pick them up and they took home all their
treasures.
Meanwhile the women spent the day learning about wellness. Several mentioned the talk about livers. I had no idea one could carry on an interesting monologue about livers for an hour. There must be things I am in the dark about.
I am
beginning to line up the program for the marriage conference which happens on Valentine's Day. There will be a great children's program there as well, and the kids will probably have a blast. The workshops will explore topics that are of interest to people working on relationships, including playful activities like ceramics and improv.
Gathering with the intention of marital growth has been a blessing for me, and every year I find new ways to put energy into our relationship.
I'm trying to shine light on the areas I am in the dark about.
