Music Helps

I laughed out loud when I watched the dog in this video. He or she clearly enjoyed the music, and missed it when it stopped. Music works for me too. The other day the twins and I were feeling grumpy in the car doing errands, and one of us started singing. In two shakes of a dog's tail the rest of us chimed in and soon there was no where else we wanted to be.

Last summer we invited couples to bring a piece of music to marriage group. It was like opening a treasure box to see them respond to a tune that has history for them. The lyrics may or may not have meaning for me but the joy of those who brought it saturated the whole room.

You have music that moves you. There are tunes that set your feet tapping, or engage your heart in half a measure.

This week I am leading music for a children's camp. My guitar and I will hopefully set their toes dancing, and when I bring out the shakers and drums their wrists too. Meanwhile the twins will be at theater camp, belting out lyrics about submerged girls with tails.

John will be absorbed in his own camp of sorts, for clergy. They are addressing some areas that hold conflict, and my prayer for their unity runs deep.

Maybe they could start with a few bars of heart softening songs.

Love,
Lori
