When I buy a sweet something I often leave it on top of the fridge. That keeps it out of vision for shorter eaters, and makes it easy to nibble on throughout the day. I am not sure if the younger kids even know they are being left out of the loop. But I can reach for a bit of chocolate or toffee without the trouble of even opening a
cupboard.
The other day John left a jar of almonds on the counter. I went to put it away but then I hesitated. If the nuts were easily accessible maybe I would snack on them instead. It worked. Several times that morning I spilled protein into my palm instead of sugar.
There are times when I have a prickly comment poised on my tongue waiting for John to come home so I can deliver it. One time I could not wait to whine to him about the
way Benjamin had spoken to me, and to complain that the circuit breaker had gone off when I was making toast at the same time as using the microwave.
Then I caught myself. Sure these is something akin to a sugar buzz when I give him a one two gripe, but what if I met him with something more nourishing, like appreciation?
I decided to type a few kind words into a text, without sending it. Then the next time I was tempted to belly ache
the pleasant ones would be in the queue.
It worked. I think I will leave the almond jar on the counter permanently. .
