Today is Valentine's Day. More couples will go out to dinner than on an ordinary night in August. It is a way to feel special, and push aside the ever present demands of jobs and kids. Although if you have kids you have to go to the trouble to find a babysitter, and maybe make macaroni.
I saw a
story about fourteen couples who run restaurants together in Philly. They each described the best part of the venture and many say it's that they get to spend time together. I am not a veteran of dining in the city, having gone exactly twice, once when our daughter
bought us a night on the town and again when I took my daughters to a local cafe before John's barbershop concert. But reading about these couples who are combining their skills in such a tangible way makes me want to step out. One hot spot, called
Vedge, looks intriguing. Although the price is twice what we are charging for dinner at
Cairnwood Estates tomorrow night at the conference, it looks inviting.
There is a local spot called
Be Well Bakery that is run by a young couple. It adds to the charm to see them behind the counter, or pausing for a moment to chat.
Another is the
restaurant
Allways Cafe down the road. It is owned by a husband and wife whose son is in the twins' class, and we went last month for Ben's birthday.
Maybe you will go out tonight for a bite. Or maybe you will just have chili in front of the fire. However you fill your belly I hope that it will be a nice chance to break bread with people you love.
