I watched a fascinating social science
experiment. Someone plunked a colorful ball pit on a street corner with a sign inviting people to sit in it with a stranger for the purpose of making a friend. They were challenged to find what they had in common, and could answer the questions printed on the balls.
"What is something that changed your life?"
"Who inspires you?"
"What are three things on your bucket list?"
It is pretty cute to watch the results.
I notice that it is easy for John and I to get stuck in the same questions.
"Are you going shopping?"
"Are you hungry?"
"Will you vacuum?"
I wonder if I could shake it up a little, and ask different kinds of questions. After three decades it is easy to think I already know all his answers. But probably I don't.
Maybe I could find somewhere adventurous to sit with him, and we could even make up a secret handshake.
