I may just save this
video in my inbox, as an antidote for those roaming thoughts that I deserve better.
An executive chef from
The Capital Grille in Minnesota walked away from a six figure career to serve the homeless. He was renowned for his entrees that drew $45 a plate, and chose instead to help the Salvation Army both improve nutrition and cut costs. Now he can fill a belly for 63 cents.
His wedding ring is prominently visible in the video, while the narrator mentions that the erosion of his marriage was the catalyst for the change. I am left to guess whether the relationship survived the transition, but it looks as if he still considers himself married.
Deserving is a question that infiltrates many interactions. When I make a quilt on commission, I grapple with the price. What am I worth? When couples argue about chores, they can stumble on expectations about what is coming to them.
But I am moved by one man who traded his high paying job for a chance to serve those who feel unworthy.
