When the kids traipsed downstairs this morning they moved lithely.
"Chilly today! Woosh!"
I suffer from a short attention span but even I can recall being eager for the rising thermometer last June. Now I am invigorated by the cold snap. My cousin, the Apple Pie Queen, made her first creation of the new crop. We bought sweet corn from a farm on Sunday and enjoyed it with butter. Next week I go to Maine with my sisters and I anticipate seeing tangy tangerine and ruby red leaves.
At the mentor meeting last night folks tugged quilts around their laps. A week ago we were still shouting above the whirring fans. Brisk is novel after three months of sweat. After dinner we yanked the panes down but next April I predict we will be giddy to open them. By July we will seek out a pool to splash in. Summer swivels into autumn, winter retreats into spring.
Revolving seasons are a blessing. Same old same old gets tiresome, even if it is great. While I am not the most adventurous person in my zip code it is fun to have one foot in the familiar and one in the fresh.
Marriage is a two step of commonplace and strange. Maybe I know what John will say about recent events unfolding overseas. But maybe I don't. He may launch into a story I know by heart, but maybe he will surprise me with something he read online.
Don't tell John but I am taking him somewhere fun this weekend. In fact, even I don't know yet where it is.
