Marriage Moats Caring for Marriage

When I was in my early twenties it never occurred to me that my parents had invested decades into raising me. I was preoccupied with falling in love, leaving no room for noticing what my relationship meant to them. This video shows a father speaking to the young man who has won his daughter's heart. I love the triad of humor, affection and truth.

It has been a little bit ouchy to realize how minuscule my part is in the choices my children make about marriage. I would have thought that two and a half decades of waffles and ballet lessons would have afforded me more influence than the lobbyists have in Washington, who have done little more than pay for lunch and a medium sized yacht. But freedom is part and parcel of why John and I chose to set foot on this parenting path, and that means slacking our pace as the kids sprint into adulthood.
