Marriage Moats-Three Years Today

![]() Three years ago today marriage moats began. The name came from a
conversation with Benjamin, who loves moats and how they protect against
bad guys. I can still picture him laughing as he told me about culprits
splashing in the water with alligators.
Protecting
marriage is not a one time event, I have noticed. Efforts in 2010
served me then but do not create immunity in 2013. That's annoying.
Last spring, or perhaps the one before, I completely organized my sewing room. It was a mammoth job but I loved the space I got when it was done. Not only that I found lots of forgotten fabrics. But now it is a jungle of piles again, and I every time I give myself a deadline I wiggle around it. Probably the efforts I made months ago will make the job ahead less ominous. But I still gotta show up to do it.
I am building up momentum. Even telling you this helps fortify my willpower. I will clean the sewing room. I will.
I will also write another moat tomorrow. Photo by Kat Gatti
