Marriage Moats Caring for Marriage

I am of course a sucker for stories about people with autism. But this one touched a bigger crowd than little me. A young man has been a prisoner of his own fear of people for the last seven years, and with the encouragement of his mother and singing teacher lifted up a few thousand people to their feet in ovation.

The words are apropos. You raise me up to more than I can be.

Autism doesn't come out of nowhere. Perhaps all of us have the capacity to be autistic.
  • Overwhelmed by social situations
  • Inability to know how someone else is feeling
  • Frozen by fear
  • Lopsided attention to self
Yet here is one man who in ninety seconds stomped over that dread and connected to millions of strangers.

I hear of couples for whom these same road blocks show up. There is not enough of an impairment to get a diagnosis. They succeed in their jobs, laugh at parties and hide their terror under the bed. But they are lost too, trying not to let it show.

I am strong when I am on your shoulders...

Marriage offers each of us a chance to be those shoulders.
